What to write in a just because card for a friend
No birthday, no holiday, no reason. That’s what makes a just because card land. Here are messages you can send as they are, or tweak in a few seconds.
Short and sweet
For when you want to say a lot in one line.
No reason. Just thinking of you.
You popped into my head today, and it made me smile.
A little reminder that you’re one of my favorite people.
Saw something today that was so you. Had to say hi.
Just because you deserve a nice surprise in your inbox.
Life is better with you in it. That’s the whole card.
Sending a small hello and a big hug.
Thank you for being exactly who you are.
Thinking of you
When you haven’t talked in a while, or just want them to know you care.
It’s been too long since we talked, but you’re never far from my mind. Coffee soon?
I was remembering that day we laughed until we couldn’t breathe. I miss you.
Just checking in. How are you, really? I’m here whenever you want to talk.
Distance hasn’t changed a thing. Still your biggest fan, still just a message away.
I don’t say it often enough: I’m so glad we found each other.
Thinking of you today and hoping it’s a gentle one.
When they’re going through a lot
No need to fix anything. Let them know they’re not alone.
I know things are heavy right now. You don’t have to reply. I just wanted you to know I’m here.
One day at a time is still moving forward. I’m proud of you.
You don’t have to be strong all the time. Lean on me whenever you need to.
Whatever happens next, you won’t face it alone.
You’ve handled hard things before, and I believe in you now too.
Sending you a quiet moment, a deep breath and a whole lot of love.
Funny ones
A little silliness goes a long way, especially with old friends.
This card has no reason and no plan. Just like most of our best ideas.
Reminder: you are legally required to be this awesome. Keep it up.
I was going to send you a cake, but this card has zero calories.
Just because. Also because I need someone to text about my dramatic week.
You’re the friend I’d call to help me hide the evidence. (The evidence is cookie crumbs.)
On a scale of 1 to amazing, you’re still breaking the scale.
For a long-distance friend
For the friend who lives too far away.
Different time zones, same friendship. Wish I could hand you this in person.
Counting down to the day we’re in the same place again.
The miles are long, but you still feel like the person next door.
Sending this across the map with a hug attached.
How to make it sound like you
A few small things that turn a nice card into a memorable one.
- Mention one real thing. A shared joke, a place, a recent win. “Still laughing about the karaoke night” beats any perfect sentence.
- Keep it short. Two or three sentences feel warm. A just because card isn’t a letter.
- Skip the apology. No need for “sorry I’ve been bad at keeping in touch.” Just say hi.
- Don’t ask for anything. No favors, no plans to confirm. The whole point is that it’s just because.
- Sign it like you talk. “Love,” “Miss you,” or just your name, whatever you’d say out loud.
