How to say thank you without being cheesy
A good thank you is short and specific. Say what they did, say what it meant, and stop there. Here’s the formula, plus messages you can use right away.
The simple formula
Three short parts. That’s all a sincere thank you needs.
- Name the thing. “Thank you for driving me to the airport at 5 am,” not just “thanks for everything.”
- Say what it changed. “I made my flight, and I actually got to relax.”
- Look ahead, briefly. “Next coffee is on me.” Then sign off. No need for more.
- Avoid the big words. Skip “eternally grateful” and “words can’t express.” Plain words sound more sincere.
